2008 AGM RESULTS

Dear Finn Members

An email will be sent shortly with the official results of the AGM, however in summary: John Shallvey was re-elected president, Andrew Pollard Treasurer and myself as secretary.

There were two motion to be voted on, results for both were in the positive.  More to come in the near future.

2008 FINN MASTERS

I am sure that you have all been following the fortunes of our intrepid Aussies at the Finn Masters in Medemblik, James Mayjor has kindly offered to supply us with the scuttlebutt from the 280 strong regatta.

James' first posting.

Hello all from Sunny Medemblick,

Yes that’s right sunny!! Anyone who’s travelled to the Netherlands before will remember grey, wet, and windy conditions in this international sailing Mecca. Not this time though, we woke this morning to glorious weather, sunny, a barmy 25 C and bugger all wind. It pretty much stayed that way all day.

Not great news for the 220 Finn sailors who have travelled from 26 countries, to be here at the 2008 Master Finn World Championship. Let’s face it, it’s a masters regatta, averaging over 100KG we’re simply not built for next to no wind.

The forecast guy reckons it’ll be this way all week as there’s a big high pressure system sitting on Holland. That is good news, as we all know the forecast is always wrong.

So to the days sailing, well there wasn’t much, most of us stayed ashore and “Tweaked” our boats while we waited for the breeze to fill in. Which it didn’t, so true to form for such regatta’s we all migrated to the bar in the afternoon for a session, nothing like a couple of Heinie’s!!!!

Wish you were here, talk to you tomorrow. Cheers, Margery (James Mayjor).

(About James Mayjor; James moved from Australia to Germany nearly seven years ago and started sailing Finns after several years sailing Etchells & Solings. James currently lives in Shanghai with his wife and two children. As some of you will know, sailing Finns is definetly addictive so on the request of Brian Reynolds, the Australian Finn Class secretary Margery has agreed to provide an entertaining, (we hope) glimpse of the 2008 Master World Finn regatta as it unfolds)

Stay tuned for more, 220 boats, I thought the FGC was impressive with 82...

NOTICE 2008 AGM

The notice for the 2008 AGM has been published, see here.

One of the items to be decided on is the location for the next National titles.  We would encourage any member who believe they have a club that would like to host the National Titles please feel free to put in a submission to the AGM.  We would strongly encourage any club from SA to put a submission forward.

Don't forget, you need to be a financial member of the IFAA to have a say in the future of the class, see here for a 2008 membership form.

2008 ROGUES GALLERY

There has been some concern re. the quality of the individuals that have been seen associating with the Finn fleet.  If you see either of these individuals approach with caution.

Seriously though, for those who don't know, on the left is two time Australian Olympic representative Chris Pratt and on the right is Rob McMillan who was one of the leading UK sailors back in the day.  It is great to see sailors of this quality back in the Aus Finn fleet.

As a side issue, if anyone has photos or video from the summer of sailing that you would like to share, feel free to send them through, I would be happy to post them for all to see.

FINN MERCHANDISE SPECIAL

The are specials available for the IFAA Finn Merchandise.

SPONSOR ANNOUNCEMENT

The International Finn Association of Australia takes great pleasure in announcing ZHIK as a major sponsor of the IFAA for the 2007/08 season.

ZHIK have been supporting Finn sailing in Australia for some time, but this current sponsorship arrangement is a great step forward for the IFAA.

As I am sure you already know, ZHIK produces equipment that is market leading in design, quality, style and usability.

As part of the sponsorship the IFAA has FINN merchandise available for purchase. I encourage all Finn sailors to check out the comprehensive range at one of the many Zhik dealers.

I strongly encourage all IFAA members to purchase their new seasons sailing requirements from the ZHIK range and support the companies that are supporting Australian Finn sailing.
