2013 Nationals NOR Now Available

The 2013 Australia Finn Championships will be conducted by Cronulla Sailing Club, NSW from 7th to 11th January. Thanks again to NB Sailsports/Finnports for supporting the event The NOR is available here

Now is the time to book time off from work and the wife so we can get a massive turnout.

Congratulations Brendan Casey

Congratulations to our Australian Finn representative at London 2012 - Brendan Casey. He fought gallantly, and came home strong to just miss out on the medal race.

A phenomenal battle of will between Jonas Hogh-Christensen(DEN) and Ben Ainslie(GBR) all week saw them only separated by their Medal Race results to decide the Gold and Silver Medals.

Jonothan Lobert (FRA) sailed a consistent week followed by a heroic Medal Race to just beat PJ Postma (NED) for the Bronze Medal.

What a great display of Finn sailing all round!

Nationals Trophy Refurbished

The IFAA Nationals trophy has recently been handed over to 2012 winner James Paterson after a thorough refurbishment.
James is glad to have to trophy taking pole position in his pool room after his excellent performance in Adelaide earlier this year.

Brendan Casey Wins French Sailing World Cup

Congratulations to Brendan Casey who staged a miraculous come-from-behind victory in the Medal Race to win the Semaine Olympique Francaise ISAF Sailing World Cup Event. Brendan revelled in the gale-force conditions that battered competitors all week.

This victory has secured Brendan a berth on the Australian Olympic Team for London 2012.

For a full wrap up on the event please read the story from IFA here.

A huge congratulations to Brendan on this outstanding achievement!

2012 NSW State Titles Report by Jim Wells

Over the weekend of the 31st March& 1st April the NSW Finn State Titles where held at The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on the glorious waters at Pittwater.

Saturday was a long & hard day for all competitors with our first start at approx. 10.20 am in a light NW breeze & after the completion of this race everyone had a couple of hours to enjoy their lunches till a very light easterly came in to allow an additional 2 races to be held. During these races Rob McMillan showed his years of expirience & won each heat with Shaun Wells taking two seconds & Matt Visser taking a second.

During the day the evergreen Dirk Seret ( a spring Chicken) showed age is no barrier whilst our youngest sailor Angus Barton from Tasmania also made everyone realise that he has ability as only in the class for a few weeks. It was also great to see Robert Reid from Abbotsford & Ajay Rau sailing a Finn for the first time enjoying the company of a very diverse group of sailors and look forward to seeing both again. The Finn fleet continues to provide the most eclectic bunch of sailors from students to retired gentleman, lawyers to tradesman but from company directors to sail makers all good sailors with the love of a great boat

The Sunday was a long day as all competitors where on the course early however the conditions made everyone waite again till a light N Easterly appeared.

The three races highlighted Shaun Wells campaign with 3 wins while Rob McMillan had 2 seconds whilst there was some very close racing amongst the entire fleet.

At the end based on a count back Shaun Wells won the coveted state trophy with Rob McMillan second and Matt Visser third.

An event such as this cannot be run without sponsors therefore a special thanks to both Contender Sail Cloth & North Sails for their support to enable such an event to occur.

Congratulations need to be handed to the all the volunteers & race officals for their support throughout the event.
